ECLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH SYCORAX

“Yes it is our first time playing at HIRC, and there is a whole new level of excitement surrounding the band at the moment. The Name itself and since it is one of the biggest fest and platform a band can get in India.

Massive Metal India- We would love to take you back to when you started as a band. For those who don’t know, Sycorax , How did it come together? What is that made you decide on the name of Sycorax and what story does it have behind them? Who are your members and what role do they have in the band?

We started back in January 2011, when the two guitarists came together and decided to form a band, later joined by childhood friends in bass drums and vocals. Sycorax is a name of the most powerful witch in Shakesphere literature, keeping that in mind we decided to keep our name Sycorax to cast a spell on our audience with our music.
Dewansh and Gautam are the two guitarist, Ravi holds the bass guitars, Ribesh in Drums and Trivinesh in vocals

MMI- We have 28 bands on list and the country witnesses’ bands coming up every year. What sets you apart and makes you different? Who are your favourite bands and influences? And why?
What sets us apart is our music, which we have termed Pavitra Gorkha Metal, which is a mix of Thrash and Death Metal and has lot of nepali beats, rhythms, bass patterns and elements infused in our songs. We all have different influences from Trash Metal Bands to Extreme Death Metal Bands

MMI- A lot of people as a band focus on subjects like social and political aspect. But what subject apart from the ones mentioned above do you have a keen interest in? What current messages do you convey which is important for the youth of today?
We are musicians and we do not like to get involved in politics we leave that for like the politicians. However we do promote our traditional gorkha culture, and our race and the problems we face through our music!

MMI- If someone is interested in your music, what would you tell them to expect from your music? What are your favourite track you guys have recorded and Why?
We would thank them first of all! And we would tell them to expect nothing but brutality and gorkha metal from our music.  As of now we have just released our new single 'Designing Eradication' from our upcoming EP and more shall follow. We love all our songs; we have worked hard on all of it!!!

MMI- As India is concerned in music industry, financial situations are hard for a band and it seems people give up on the search for their Dream. What do you think the Dream for your band is and are you searching for it?
It is sad to see a band give up their dreams due to financial problems but however sad the situation, for us it’s not about money it’s about sending a message and dedicating ourselves to do what we love! Like any band we to have dreams of playing at international festivals and being recognised world around. We are not searching for it working on it each and every day practicing, playing concerts, and making music.

MMI- Maybe this is your first time playing at HIRC, well If you had to name one of your favourite things that made you guys decide to register and play for the contest, what would it be and why?
Yes it is our first time playing at HIRC, and there is a whole new level of excitement surrounding the band at the moment. The Name itself and since it is one of the biggest fest and platform a band can get in India.

MMI- What do you feel has been the defining moment about Your Band?
Each and every stage that we have stepped foot on from big to small has played an important role for the band and has defined us to what we have become till now, we try to learn from our mistakes each passing day and try grow and improve ourselves.

MMI- Which shows, gigs or concerts have been a turning point for you as a band? Tell us a stage where you had the most fun and the worst too?
Again we have had so much fun playing at all the shows/gigs and concerts we have played that we love them all and would like to thank the organizers for having us there. However the worst or disappointing   would be the IIT kharagpur finals, being a metal band we encouraged moshpit and used a few abusive word for which we were disqualified!

MMI- There are so many bands and young musicians today and the completion gets more and more every year. What advice do you have for musicians who want to make music their full time career?
We would like to tell them follow your dreams and be dedicated and believe in to what they do, the scene is changing...

MMI- Thank you so much for giving Massive Metal India this interview, is there anything you would like to add?
Thank you for this interview! And we hope that you guys keep promoting the scene!
