IF YOU HAVE’NT HEAR OF THE WHITE NOISE FROM NAGALAND
PLAYING AT THE GREAT HORNBILL INTERNATIONAL ROCK CONTEST, MASSIVE METAL INDIA
BRINGS YOU AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH THE 5 PIECE BAND HAILING FROM NAGALAND!!
Massive
Metal India - We would love to take you back to when you started as a band. For those who don’t
know, (band’s name), How did it come together? What is that
made you decide on the name of (band’s name) and what story does it have behind
them? Who are your members and what role do they have in the band?
-Well, White Noise started as a Side project band with
members and ex members of three different bands namely Incipit, Polar Lights
and Clueless Attention from Nagaland, India. Forming of this band has a funny
history to it actually...it started out with a simple facebook chat between the
guitarist and the drummer discussing about music and bands and especially the
so called “HORNBILL INTERNATIONAL ROCK CONTEST”...one thing led to another and
we had a jam session and the chemistry between the members clicked so we
finally came up with a decision to try for the contest and see where it leads
from there...There is another funny story behind the naming of the band, we
came up with so many stupid funny names such as NO IDEA (because we had no idea
what to call ourselves) , I SEE A RED BUILDING, FILE COVER, HANGING PAPAYA,
TIGER CLIMBING TREE and soooo many more hahaha.....We Then decided to stick
with WHITE NOISE which was actually the name of a studio the guitarist was
planning on naming it (Which never happened btw lol)...We are a five piece
outfit....White Noise are:
1.Wapong Ozukum-Vocals/Guitars
2.Atsa Lang Roths- Guitars/Vocals
3.Akok Imsong- Synth/Vocals
4.Imlier Jamir- Bass
5.Vitz Zhimo-Percussions/Vocals
MMI- We have 28 bands on list and the country
witnesses’ bands coming up every year. What sets you apart and makes you
different? Who are your favourite bands and influences? And why?
-Ummmmmm well
honestly since we are relatively very new as a unit we are still trying to figure out what our sound
is so maybe we will let the people decide
what we sound like after they hear us play......We all come from
different musical backgrounds and all of us have different influences...but
we all have the same concept about what
a good song should sound like, be it the arrangements, the melody or whatever
haha...so maybe thats one of the reason we click as a band...:)
MMI- A lot of people as a band focus on subjects like social and political aspect. But what subject apart from the ones mentioned above do you have a keen interest in? What current messages do you convey which is important for the youth of today?
-LIVE AND LET LIVE
:P
MMI- If someone is interested in your music, what would
you tell them to expect from your music? What are your favourite track you guys
have recorded and Why?
-They can expect some catchy melody lines and some
interesting hooks in between .....our songs so far are all easy listening,
nothing really technical or such....our main focus is the melody and
harmony.....we started this band just recently and to be honest HIRC is the
first gig we are venturing out in as a band so we still haven’t hit the studios
yet but you can expect some tracks from us real soon J
MMI- As India is concerned in music industry,
financial situations are hard for a band and it seems people give up on the
search for their Dream. What do you think the Dream for your band is and are
you searching for it?
-Of course we face
that every single day of our life....Financial crisis is one of the most
important factor that stops the bands from getting there....But then at the end
of the day it is our passion and love for the music that we are still striving
and doing what we do..... We know its a cliché but Like every band in the world
we dream of making it big and getting there in the international market.
Maybe this is your first time playing at HIRC, well If you had to
name one of your favourite things that made you guys decide to register and
play for the contest, what would it be and why?
-1 MILLION woooohoooo hahahaha...that says it all...lol
MMI- What
do you feel has been the defining moment about Your Band?
-Uhhhhh The
Chemistry between the members at the first jam? :P
MMI- Which
shows, gigs or concerts have been a turning point for you as a band? Tell us a
stage where you had the most fun and the worst too?
-The HIRC will be
our debut performance so no comments there J
There are so many bands and young musicians today and the
completion gets more and more every year. What advice do you have for musicians
who want to make music their full time career?
-DONT STOP
BELIEVING and KEEP THE FAITH.....and FOR THOSE WHO ARE ABOUT TO ROCK WE SALUTE
YOU!! :P
MMI- Thank you so much for giving Massive Metal India this interview, is there
anything you would like to add?
-Thank you MMI for
this interview...we seriously had fun typing in this answers to your
questions...You guys are doing an awesome job ....Keep at it!! Cheers J
