Exclusive Interview With The Yesterdrive

"There are lots of competitions being held in and around the country, but this is one unique platform which truly justifies a true sense of battles among bands, in our opinion. Plus who would not want to fight for the one million right? :D "- Yesterdrive (Interview with MMI)

An Indie/Alternative Rock Band based in New Delhi From Arunachal Pradesh calling themselves The Yesterdrive is here with us today. Playing at HIRC for the first time, let’s see how excited they are!!!

MASSIVE METAL INDIA - We would love to take you back to when you started as a band. For those who don’t know, Yesterdrive , How did it come together? What is that made you decide on the name of Yesterdrive and what story does it have behind them? Who are your members and what role do they have in the band?

- Hello we are Yesterdrive. Yesterdrive isMolee-VocalsLiem – BassHaggai- GuitarsSachin – DrumsThe band basically is about creating those yesteryears unadulterated sound that each and every one of us enjoys hence the name “Yesterdrive”. The vision of Yesterdrive comes from Molee and Liem who while working together as a music enthusiast wanted to go back to the roots of pure, raw and independent music. Therefore on meeting Haggai from “The Mangalz”, an audio engineer by profession, who shared the same passion called in Sachin, also from “The Mangalz” , a very versatile and talented pupil of music to cover the drums. That’s basically the brief version of Yesterdrive.

MMI- We have 28 bands on list and the country witnesses’ bands coming up every year. What sets you apart and makes you different? Who are your favourite bands and influences? And why?
-Some of the band’s influences are from post punk favourites like "The Cure”, "The Ramones" to other acts like " The Sex Pistol". Every act and bands are unique and different in their own ways. We like to live in the moment. As for now the band is very young and energetic, so we will have to wait and see what more unique can we do.

MMI- A lot of people as a band focus on subjects like social and political aspect. But what subject apart from the ones mentioned above do you have a keen interest in? What current messages do you convey which is important for the youth of today?
- Politics are for politicians, and there are other responsible people to take care of social aspects. In this generation of running fast and competition all we want to do is relax, sit back and enjoy the moments of life may it be happy , may it be sad. Carrying so much of burden and constantly fighting for it is not going to be its worth. Instead enjoying carrying the burden is what will make the journey worth. We hope your readers are getting it. :D

MMI- If someone is interested in your music, what would you tell them to expect from your music? What are your favourite track you guys have recorded and Why?
- Expect the unexpected. Since we don’t stick ourselves to one form of writing music, it’s always different from one to another. Although listening to it carefully one can find “Yesterdrive” written all over it. We write songs about day to day life so that anyone can relate to it. Releasing the E.P Hold on really helped us and has challenged us for more. The title song “Hold on” is currently on everyone’s ears but we are working on a new single too, “Fake Schemes”, which we are all excited about.

MMI- As India is concerned in music industry, financial situations are hard for a band and it seems people give up on the search for their Dream. What do you think the Dream for your band is and are you searching for it?
- Every band’s dream is to get heard by as much mass as possible, and yes we believe on it too. The fight for music as a profession is still on in India. It’s not only financials but many other reasons too such as, lack of proper venues, access to quality instruments, greedy organisers, and so many else, but one should not lose their dream already.

MMI- Maybe this is your first time playing at HIRC, well If you had to name one of your favourite things that made you guys decide to register and play for the contest, what would it be and why?
- There are lots of competitions being held in and around the country, but this is one unique platform which truly justifies a true sense of battles among bands, in our opinion. Plus who would not want to fight for the one million right? :D

MMI- What do you feel has been the defining moment about Your Band?
- As already mentioned the band is still young so we are kinda waiting for that moment.

MMI- Which shows, gigs or concerts have been a turning point for you as a band? Tell us a stage where you had the most fun and the worst too?
- We loved Ziro Festival of Music earlier this year. Everything about it was great. The band did experience and learned a lot.

MMI- There are so many bands and young musicians today and the completion gets more and more every year. What advice do you have for musicians who want to make music their full time career?
-Just go for it. Thinking too much will only give a chain of thoughts and nothing else.

MMI- Thank you so much for giving Massive Metal India this interview, is there anything you would like to add?
-Huge thanks to Massive Metal India for the opportunity to share some piece of our mind. And all the best wishes to you for your future. Keep supporting independent artists, and keep listening to Yesterdrive.
