The F16s from Chennai is a five piece band playing electro indie whose influence ranges from The Artic Monkeys to the Vampire Weekend.
Playing at the Great Hornbill Festival this year, Let's give a Ear to What they say..
Massive
Metal India - We would love to
take you back to when you started as a band. For
those who don’t
know, F16s, How did it come together? What is that made you decide
on the name of F16sand what story does it have behind them? Who are
your members and what role do they have in the band?
-We go by the name of ' The F16s' we were formed after much shuffling and
disintegration from previous bands that we used to play until we all just came
together in late 2012. We have a black cat at the end of the street who gave us
a lifeless pigeon with a note on it saying, F16 it. we decided to stick to that
name.
Were a five piece band. Josh being the vocalist and guitarist, shank the
bassist, harshan the keys, booby plays the guitars, and vikram drums.
MMI - We
have 28 bands on list and the country witnesses’
bands coming up every year. What sets you apart and makes you different? Who
are your favourite bands and influences? And why?
-Our sound and
tendency to always structure our songs perfectly. Being different is not always
good thing anyways, we listen to Strokes, Artic Monkeys, Foals, etc. our list
could go on.
MMI - A lot of people as a band focus on subjects like social and political aspect. But what subject apart from the ones mentioned above do you have a keen interest in? What current messages do you convey which is important for the youth of today?
-We dont really give
out messages as of such cause otherwise we'd have some messed up kids around,
but our songs are rooted in tales. tales of love, heartache, freedom, weekends,
parties. good poetry is when everybody interprets a song accordingly to his or
her needs and desires.
MMI - If
someone is interested in your music, what would you tell them to expect from
your music? What are your favourite track you guys have recorded and Why?
- With our
music, always expect your feet to move, energy and lots of medicine.
we released an EP called kaleidoscope which you can find onsoundcloud.com, and all the tracks are our
favorites. a creator loves all of his creation.
MMI - As
India is concerned in music industry, financial situations are hard for a band
and it seems people give up on the search for their Dream. What do you think
the Dream for your band is and are you searching for it?
- It does get financially hard, being a musician is probably the riskiest
profession out there but we adore making music. we dream to be big, as every
musician does, a means to and end.
MMI-
Maybe this is your first time playing at HIRC, well If you had to name one of
your favourite things that made you guys decide to register and play for the
contest, what would it be and why?
- We've never played in the north east, and I’ve heard it’s a different
cocooned scene there. We look forward to sharing our music with you. and
obviously, 10 lakhs.
MMI
-
What do you feel has been the defining
moment about Your Band?
- Were still under construction of
definition.
MMI
-
Which shows, gigs or concerts have been
a turning point for you as a band? Tell us a stage where you had the most fun
and the worst too?
- Weve played some
really fun festivals like India bike week in goa, were playing the NH7 weekender
in banglore on the 23rd. some good venues like , high spirits in pune,
the humming tree in banglore. our worst gig would be a phoenix mall,
please shop there.
MMI -
There are so many bands and young musicians today and the completion gets more
and more every year. What advice do you have for musicians who want to make
music their full time career?
- Open your mind up to
everything, never let your music be generic, develop your own style and
practice everyday. love what you do, breathe what you do.
MMI - Thank you so much for giving Massive Metal India this interview.
