Exclusive Interview With Making Merry

The band I’ve personally been waiting for is here- Making Merry, a five piece indie-techno band as my definition of Making Merry goes is playing at the Great hornbill International Rock Contest 2013.

MASSIVE METAL INDIA - We would love to take you back to when you started as a band. For those who don’t know, (band’s name), How did it come together? What is that made you decide on the name of (band’s name) and what story does it have behind them? Who are your members and what role do they have in the band?

Funny the way it started. We had something else in mind and it all turn the other way. Started as a side project band in 2011. We wanted to take a step further, guess we did, we are still doing it, and we’ll not stop!!! Whatever!!! Hahaha...Making Merry!!! With this bright highlight...we believe we also share a very emotional side the name tag on!!! It’s not only the happiness you see MMI!!!!! Heeeeeeeee

MMI - We have 28 bands on list and the country witnesses’ bands coming up every year. What sets you apart and makes you different? Who are your favourite bands and influences? And why?

We simply cannot wait for the big day to fall…heading on to the international platform??? Our balls are shaking wild!!!!
We are always on a venture hunting the best sound that will suit us. We believe, that will set us apart making us different from the rest? We have so many favorite bands...we love Phoenix, Young the giant, Breathe Carolina, Passion Pit and many more...influences are massive and we can’t measure it up..But at the end you are running a band ourselves and got to build up your own peculiarity. It’s really hard to pull one down…we just make it look too easy and cool.

MMI - A lot of people as a band focus on subjects like social and political aspect. But what subject apart from the ones mentioned above do you have a keen interest in? What current messages do you convey which is important for the youth of today?
We write about life, love!!!!!! It gets messier because we believe one word has many meanings!!! We love what we write, we portray its meaning and we are happy with that. We just make sure everything is in the right place…you can’t sing “I Love You” in a brutal way right MMI???hahahaha

MMI - If someone is interested in your music, what would you tell them to expect from your music? What are your favourite track you guys have recorded and Why?

We are even more excited about that!! Hahaha well that someone should definitely expect the unexpected!!! We try to put up elements in our music were we normally wouldn’t hear it, do it!!! We think it’s cool!!! Heeeeeeee.
We are planning an Album… “Better not Dream cause it’s only a dream” is the best we ever made till date.

MMI - As India is concerned in music industry, financial situations are hard for a band and it seems people give up on the search for their Dream. What do you think the Dream for your band is and are you searching for it?

Very true MMI!!! It saddens us to know...We are planning big but you never know when it’s falling and that’s the hardest part not knowing. Every precisions has to be right but yet we keeping the flow!!! We pray deep that we make big one day and prove all the others wrong!!!Wish us luck!!!!

MMI - Maybe this is your first time playing at HIRC, well If you had to name one of your favourite things that made you guys decide to register and play for the contest, what would it be and why?
Of course with the new name HIRC!!! Say we got lucky. In 2011 we Guest band the Hornbill national and the next year we had a try but didn’t make it to the final. This year we had a glory win on the NSACS ZERO!!! So heading on straight to screening round??? Feels so good!!!! COMPETITION!!! Why not!!! We want to test how competitive we can get so it’s cool.

MMI - What do you feel has been the defining moment about Your Band?

The Connectivity and a sight we always see for each other are the best feeling you’ll ever get in a band!!!! Best relationship ever!!

MMI - Which shows, gigs or concerts have been a turning point for you as a band? Tell us a stage where you had the most fun and the worst too?

There are so many bands and young musicians today and the completion gets more and more every year. What advice do you have for musicians who want to make music their full time career?

We will never forget our first show as Making Merry... Though it didn’t sounded right and ok!!! We felt for each other...we felt different… we felt SUPER...We found ourselves there.
We remember a gig where our drummer stopped 4 measure advance where he shouldn’t have!!! You should have seen that confident right on his face like he was right?? We had to modify it on the spot and shitty that was horror cause…Sanen felt like shit…jungshi almost had his bass head ready to give chuba a hit!!!! Sunep felt like he was definitely going to the list of American idol worse singer’s clips.

BELIEF is all that will take to run your dream. LAZINESS is only gonna kill you. FRIENDSHIP is gonna support you through your dream.
